Running pretty well lately; playing ok and, more importantly, catching well. I put a check-raise bluff on a guy the other night that was, if I say so myself, poetry. But this is a play that one can attempt once a session, maybe, as it requires a confluence of cards, table position, opponent selection and mood, and it isn’t going to win all the time, or even three quarters of the time. It is great when it does though. I had a 10-5 offsuit in the big blind, so I was in for free when nobody raised. Flop was a K-5-3 rainbow giving me a weak middle pair. I was first; I checked. 3 players check beind me around to Lebron, an African American kid (if I didn’t know he had to be 21 to be at the table, I would have guessed he was 19) who has been playing really aggressively and is winning, on the button. It is a not uncommon play to raise on the button if no one has bet, plus Lebron likes to bet, so when he does and I raise behind him it looks like I have laid a trap for him with some very strong hand, probably a set(3) of fives or threes, or maybe kings up. With pocket kings, Lebron knew, I would have raised before the flop. Even as a non-bluff, this would have been a pretty good play, because it caused middle players to cold call 2 bets. They all fold, Lebron calls. He must have a king, or maybe a big, worthless ace. The turn is no help. I forget. 7 maybe. I bet, he calls. There is about $25 in the pot. The river card falls unhelpful, 9? I don’t remember. Anyway I bet. Lebron looks at his cards, looks at the board, looks at the pot, then finally folds. He could have had a king, a pocket pair (every pocket pair except dueces or fous would have beaten me; pocket 3s would have made a set, which he would never have folded).

Sat in on the $3-6 table for a little while the other day. Held my own, then moved to the $2-4 table and started losing. Got down to bare felt, all in on a little flush that paid off nicely. This began a comeback that netted me a $27 profit for the day.

I want to change my insufferable band vote. U2 is the most insufferable band of all time.

Birthday shoutout to Trott. Sympathy shoutout to Ajax; come back any time, brother.

Woohooo a shout out!

I don't think I'm ever going back. I could have spent that $100 on aspro cream.

And the lady never brought my cocktail.

The lady never bringing your cocktail is a pretty common occurance at my beloved Oaks club. My advice is go to the bar yourself.

As far as the loss and the aspro cream (creme?), I wish I could muster some sympathy. It is an evil game played by angle shooters with the express purpose of separating you from your money. Someone enjoyed some aspro cream on you, though.

What did you play? 2-4? 3-6?

3-6 and I lasted about two hours, got no cards, played a few hands I shouldn't have played, etc.

I was very suprised how many people stayed in - there was no pushing people off pots in that game.

The $3-6 game at the Okas Club is tough. Loose aggressive. Those guys like to bet. And it is true, the will not go away. This is a hard pill to swallow if you are used no limit, where bets a can have more leverage. At the low limits, you mostly have to show down the best hand and try not to lose as much on 2nd best hands.
